Happy New Year 2009!Dear Friends of the Daedalus Quartet, We hope you've all had a great start to 2009! We wanted to take this opportunity to share some news about the quartet and let you know about upcoming projects and concerts. The 2008-2009 season is our busiest yet with over 80 concerts throughout the U.S. and Europe. In November, we played 18 concerts in 21 days in Germany, Austria and Belgium. We will be back in Germany for another marathon tour of 13 concerts in March. Some other highlights of the current season include opening the season for Spivey Hall in Morrow, GA and Market Square Concerts in Harrisburg, playing all six Opus 20 quartets of Haydn at Columbia University as part of Miller Theatre's Lunchtime Concert Series, and collaborating with Michael Tree and Peter Wiley of the Guarneri Quartet for our Philadelphia Chamber Music Society debut. You can see our full schedule, read recent reviews, and hear live concert performances here on our this website! Lately, we've been immersing ourselves in the quartets of Haydn, particularly the Sun Quartets (Op. 20). It was a great experience to play just one quartet from the set for each of the six concerts we did for Miller Theatre. It gave us an opportunity to delve into the work in some detail and really highlight the special qualities of each quartet. The great review from the New York Times was an extra bonus! We started out the New Year with a recording session for Bridge Records of those amazing works, due out in the late summer/early fall of 2009. We'll keep you posted about the release date for that album.
Thank you all for your interest and support and we wish you a healthy, happy and musical 2009!
Warmest regards, |
